In the UAE, your battle against domestic abuse is supported by the law—specifically, Federal Decree-Law No. (13) of 2024. This legislation isn’t just about offering help—it’s about ensuring justice. The law now acknowledges various forms of abuse, including psychological, sexual, and financial, and imposes stringent penalties on perpetrators, including fines of up to 100,000 AED and imprisonment. This significant update to the law is a crucial step forward, recognizing that abuse extends beyond the physical to encompass a wide spectrum of abusive behaviours.
Immediate Steps to Safety: What to Do Right Now
- If you experience physical or sexual violence contact the police: Dial 999. This number can be your first step towards safety.
- Seek medical help and visit Rashid Hospital: They’re equipped to handle emergencies and help with the necessary legal paperwork which you will need for your case—something private hospitals aren’t set up for.
