My Story

Why I Do What I Do

When I was 8 years of age my parents told me they were getting divorced. I was relieved that they were separating, even at such a young age, because I knew they were better off apart than they were together. I was tired of the arguments, the anger, bitterness and the constant negative energy between the two of them.

Once the divorce had been finalised between my parents, I had visions of enjoying time between two houses, equal time with them both filled with love, joy and happiness. My young mind thought it would be plain sailing, I couldn’t have been more wrong. My reality was somewhat different, disputes over who would pay for school uniforms, arguments over holiday arrangements, ‘’he said/she said’’ conversations, your mum is this…your dad is that….

Whilst one parent was able to move on, the other became depressed, stuck, and frustrated. For the next 20+ years, I became an immediate mediator between them.

Create A Life You Deserve

I vowed to myself that if I ever had children and married, I would use their lessons and carve out a different path where children became the focus and egos were firmly set aside. However, life diverted me to a different route and I ended up in a violent and abusive relationship. I was too proud to ask for help and deeply ashamed, scared and nervous about what others would think of me. So, I kept quiet, lost some of my friends, and I felt so alone throughout the relationship.

I did eventually break free, and I was desperate to rebuild my life. I wanted to learn about healthy relationships, what it takes to have them, and what changes would I need to make to get them. I wanted to make sure I picked a partner who had similar values, beliefs and ideas about parenting. Because I wanted a different story.
When people ask me why I do this work they are often surprised when I tell them what I went through. They don’t see me as somebody who would tolerate abuse. But I did. And I learned from it, and that’s why I am here now, helping women take back their control and create a life they fully deserve. Because divorce, separation or damaging relationships do not have to define you.
